Climate research in Africa

A new funding program that the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD, www.daad.de) will kick-off in the field of climate research and protection. The call for application starts on 3rd of September 2019.

The Climate research Alumni and Postdocs in Africa (CLAP Africa) program brings high-potential African researchers in climate change research and protection together with African alumni of German funding initiatives. It seeks to catalyze uptake and use of research outputs through a vibrant, highly connected network to facilitate the development of regional solutions.

The application will be online from September 3rd through the DAAD scholarship website

with the keyword “CLAPafrica”.

For the postdoctoral fellowship, the following documents will be required:

  • Curriculum Vitae (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu)
  • List of publications
  • Letter of invitation from the host institution in western-/southern Africa
  • Research proposal
  • Time schedule for the realization of the planned work
  • Outline of ideas for setting up and operating a joint postdoc-alumni working group
  • 2 recommendation letters by academic referees
  • PhD certificate (certified as true copy of the original certificate)
  • Master’s certificate (certified as true copy of the original certificate)
  • Copy of passport

About the Programme

This DAAD-supported, development-oriented, postgraduate programme lays emphasis on tackling multi-level, cross-sectoral challenges of sustainable energy systems management. The objective of the interdisciplinary course is to qualify you to work as a professional in the growing sustainable energy sector.

You will learn to:

• recognise and analyse energy and environmental problems

• understand and analyse renewable energy solutions

• facilitate and manage the process of sustainable problem solving.

The course facilitates key qualifications such as:

• the capability to recognise problems and solutions in their entirety

• creativity and openness to innovation

• the ability to think and communicate in interdisciplinary and intercultural ways

• skills to work in groups as well as to lead and to motivate teams.

The programme allows you to graduate with a Master of Engineering (Industrial Engineer) and empowers you to work in key positions in the energy industry, in governments, NGOs, and international organisations.

All classes are taught exclusively in English.

No tuition fees required. To cover the cost of living, scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD and other programmes are available.

Data Science in Hamburg – Helmholtz Graduate School for the Structure of Matter

DASHH is a newly established graduate school that offers challenging PhD topics at the interface of the natural sciences, applied mathematics, and data and computer science.  DASHH is a partnership of several research institutions and universities in the vibrant and multifaceted city of Hamburg (DESY, Universität Hamburg, Technische Universität Hamburg, Helmut Schmidt Univeristät, Helmholtz Zentrum Gesthacht, Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter, European XFEL GmbH).

Bayreuth International Summer School

 

The Bayreuth International Summer School takes place for a duration of two weeks from 30 June until 13 July 2019 and provides an intercultural and dynamic setting reflecting the University of Bayreuth´s focus areas in research.

It consists of several individual courses, each with an interdisciplinary approach. The participants have the opportunity to engage in a rich programme that includes theoretical seminars and discussions as well as practical elements such as lab courses and workshops. The Summer School is jointly hosted by the International Office as well as the Campus Academy, the university’s institute of lifelong learning and corporate education.

Bayreuth is a historically significant, culturally diverse town with well-established networks, offering the perfect setting to meet interesting people from around the world. Scholars and students enrich the classrooms and labs with their own perspectives on the material.

Master's Program International Media Studies: Apply now!

 

Since September 2009, Deutsche Welle, Germany’s international broadcaster is offering the Master’s Program ”International Media Studies“. The bilingual, full-time program combines topics like digital media and development, journalism, communication science and media management, whilst developing skills and competencies that are important for the world of the media. This practice-oriented program optimally prepares graduates for a career in the international media industry.

 

The Master’s Program is a joint project from the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) University of Applied Sciences, the University of Bonn and Deutsche Welle. DW Akademie, Deutsche Welle’s international training institute, offers a perfect environment for learning and training for up to 30 students per year. The duration of the program is four semesters. The students conclude the course with a master’s thesis and colloquium. Successful graduates receive a Master of Arts (M.A.).

Successful applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification as well as one year of professional experience in a media-related field after having obtained their B.A.. In addition, they need to provide proof of their language skills in both German and English. Tuition will cost a total of 6,000 €. Exceptionally qualified students from developing and countries in transition can apply for a limited number of full scholarships.
