DIES National Multiplication Training: Planning Workshop in Addis Ababa (18.-19.12.2013)

(Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies), a joint venture between the
German Rectors´ Conference (HRK) and DAAD, has introduced a new programme: “The National Multiplication Training (NMT)”. These are its basic essentials:

  • Objective: DIES-Alumni organise national training activities in higher education management
  • Target group: Higher education managers worldwide who have not yet participated in a DIES-activity
  • Who can apply: National groups of DIES-Alumni
  • Topics: Anything related to higher education management considering national priorities
  • Set-up: hands-on; modular (at least eight days of training split up in at least two presences-phase-workshops); DIES-Alumni as trainers
  • Funding: Funding through DAAD-resources, at least 25% third-party-contribution

Following the first call in 2013, DIES received 27 applications from 17 countries. 9 applications were selected. With regard to Sub-Sahara Africa, three applications have been successful and the respective trainings will be implemented in the course of 2014. Ethiopian DIES-Alumni will offer training in “Proposal Writing”, Kenyan Alumni in “Curriculum Development” and Ugandan Alumni in “Internal Quality Assurance”.

The representatives of the DIES-Alumni in Ethiopia, Prof. Abebaw Gashaw and Dr. Alem Mebrahtu, together with Prof. Arnis Vilks (German Dean at Mekelle University) as well as Dr. Gerald Heusing and Mr. Girma Teshome of the DAAD Information Centre, did the fine-tuning of the training in a two day planning workshop at the Information Centre. The two series of training on research and project proposal development will be organized for 31 academic/research staff members of 31 Ethiopian public universities. The trainings will take place at Adigrat University (May 2014) and Jimma University (September 2014).
