Samsung Engineering Academy: Inauguration in Addis Ababa (26.11.2013)

Samsung officially started its academic programmes at its new Engineering Academy within the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAiT) with the first class of 60 students drawn from AAiT. The new academic facility is the fourth of its kind in Africa. The others are in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.

At the inauguration ceremony, the Scientific Director of the AAiT and former Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics, Prof. Young Kyun Kim, said: „Through the Samsung Engineering Academy, new IT products and solutions will be demonstrated, promoting future innovative business and technology incubation. Also smart education programmes will definitely improve our higher education quality and future job creation for the young and bright students.“

State Minister Dr. Kaba Urgessa (Ministry of Education) and Addis Ababa University President Dr. Adamsu Tsegaye expressed the same expectations while addressing the guests.

Prof. Young Kyun Kim as well as Mr. Munhong Yim (AAiT Managing Director) and Prof. Ho Yeol Kwon (Chair of AAiT´s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering) are recruited by DAAD under the umbrella of a cooperation agreement with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education.
