Applied Entrepreneurship Education Programme (AEEP): Kick-off Conference in Arba Minch (11.-13.12.2013)

In a nutshell, AEEP focusses on the development and implementation of an entrepreneurship programme which is tailored to the skills and the needs of Arba Minch University’s engineering master students.

The AEEP kicked off with a conference attended by its stakeholders (from Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences, Arba Minch University and DAAD), one German business partner (Sahay Solar Association Africa) and external experts (from the Ethiopian Federal Micro & Small Enterprise Development Agency, AIESEC, Yefikir Design, Pan-African Chamber of Commerce, GIZ, Centre for African Woman Economic Empowerment, V3 Power & Wind Empowerment Association and Adama University of Science and Technology).

The AEEP is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and carried out by DAAD under the umbrella of its programme “University-Business-Partnerships”. It runs from September 2013 until December 2016. The total project volume including monetary payments and payments in kinds of the universities and industry partners amounts to € 500.000.

The AEEP aims to bridge the gap between the students’ competences and the demands of regular and self-employment job markets by equipping them with the necessary business and entrepreneurial skills as well as practical and leadership experience. Students have to put theoretical knowledge directly into practice within their trainings. They have to identify their own business ideas, to develop their own business models and their own business plans, and most essentially they have to found and run their own micro businesses in the field. Moreover, the education programme tries to use synergy effects to support micro entrepreneurs as part of student’s studies.
