Study in Germany

Degrees and Recognition

Since the Bologna Process, German universities offer Bachelor und Master degrees.

If you want to study a Bachelor in Germany, your school-leaving certificate must be recognised in Germany. You can find information about the recognition of your school-leaving certificate here.

If your school-leaving certificate is not recognised in Germany, you can still study at a German university by participating in a “Studienkolleg” (foundation course). Foundation courses take one year to complete, and conclude with the “Feststellungsprüfung” (university qualification assessment examination). Please find more information on foundation courses here.

If you want to get a master's degree, attending a prep course is the ideal preparation for the demands of German universities. Find more information about prep courses here. Furthermore, prep courses can be found in the database of the DAAD.

For most degree programmes in Germany, knowledge of German is a prerequisite for admission. However, you don’t need to prove German if you intend on enrolling in an international degree programme, but a basic knowledge is highly recommended. Find more information about how to practice your German here.
